Open letter to Lebanon’s Ministry of Labour

Horrific rights abuses against migrant domestic workers are being overshadowed amid an economic crisis in Lebanon We need your name - sign the open letter to Lebanon's Ministry of Labour calling for better protections for domestic workers.

We are writing to express concerns about the current economic crisis and widespread reports from migrant domestic workers in Lebanon of depletion or non-payment of wages, withholding of legal documents such as passports, abandonment outside embassies and exploitative labour conditions.

Our organisation encourages all efforts to protect workers and to improve workers’ quality of life in Lebanon through fairness and equality. The lack of transparency and clear policies from the Ministry of Labour on migrant workers’ rights amid a deepening economic crisis is allowing employers’ exploitation of domestic workers to go unchallenged. We are concerned that the already low wage of migrant workers is not being paid in full by employers as in the original policy.
